Halloween picture.

Here's the very large version.
This is the DnD party from the biweekly game.
No pencil only ink. Loads of fun to do.

Ink over pencil and improvement.

I've been drawing again and these were done over the last two or three months.
I do hope to go back and redo a few of these, as you can see, are very rough.
But I have been improving quite a lot.
These are pictures for my Brothers story. It's a neat bit of fantasy and black powder mixed together.

"Evil wizards meat locker"

"The big fall"

"Unicorns are jerks"

"Bayonet to the zombie brain"
The scale is off the guy doing the stabbing should be three times larger.
No, he's not a leprechaun.

"Low effort theft"

"Mr. Grey"

"The delivery"

- First attempt not there yet.
The face is not even close to what it should look like yet.

This concept was kicked back and that's fair.
I was just looking for an interesting style for the character but it doesn't fit.

" Studying the jug "
Same character as above. I am trying to get the picture done and cheating a little bit just to do it.
She'll need another attempt or two but I'll figure it out.

At first I was trying to draw a dragon but I think it's more of a gargoyle

"Letting them know we're here"

Group discussions usually around a table.
Still very rough. character placement and size.
Next one should be larger which will sort this out.

"A last supper for some"
This one was really tricky.
I really like the floor and background a lot.

"How it really started"
This one really came a long way!
I feel like this really tells a story.

I ran this through a filter just as proof of concept.

Also filtered but maybe two or three times to get the FXs.

I've been struggling with this project and am finally starting to get some traction the last two pictures I have done have come a long way from the first picture in this post.
I'm working with ink a lot now and have just moved over to non photo blue pencils which I like but there is a learning curve.

Hope you enjoyed these pictures.

Notes.

And very lastly, these are mine and I DO NOT give permission to anyone to share these or use them on their own sites.
Spiky Bitz, for one, has been known to use peoples pictures without permission and that is completely cancerous behavior.  I am shocked that they keep getting away with it.
I have no expectation of such theft but I did want to make my feelings on the matter known so no one could say I didn't make it know.

The Magnificent Mansion

In the last session Harlan finally had an opportunity to cast Magnificent Mansion.

The description was clumsy but this is what I had envisioned.

As the huge door opens inward you see a long hall with a long serving table centered in the hall and you hear music. some where in the distance, "We've only just begun..."  The table is difficult to accurately describe it's either a marble top or it's a gold leaf but it looks mostly like your first impression.  On the table is a large bowl filled with fruits. Further down the table is a craft full of liquid next to several goblets made from pewter. And a few mundane hand towels. Along the left and right side of the hall are curtains made from a cloth with a sheen in the light, the seem to be a light blue or a bit green even a light yellow depending on where the light hits them. above the table are several chandlers that have hits of a mirrored service inlaid, they radiate light into the hall.
There is a stair case at the far end that goes up t the second floor but there is a rope crossing the end of the banister as if to say do not cross. the steps are possible marble again much like the table.
Any walls you might see look to be the color of carnival glass. On the second floor there are several doors which look to be the color of hammered gold and silver that catch the light. As you pull back the curtains you see piles of large pillows and several blankets of different thicknesses and textures each curtain pulled back creates it's own alcove space like a small room. a globe hangs from an ornate chain in each alcove. It radiates light that is not bright but also not dim.
Each space reveals a myriad of objects beds tables chair standing tubs for bathing mirrors.
You are told use what you like and if your space does not have what you are looking for the pull the curtains around in there until you find what you want. If you want the lights out just say so and they will go out slowly. Oh, and the servants will be around shortly with  food, which will be in the covered dishes on the table. enjoy. If you wish for privacy pull your curtain closed it's as good as a locked door. Please don't bother the up stairs or any other door, just ask if you need anything else.

The meals provided would have been smoked beef with vegetables and grilled fish. there would be water tea, red wine served hot with mulling spices or served cold and hard cyder upon request. And loves of bread as well as flat breads with a verity of jams made from berries and spreads as well as butter.

Conferrable clothing would also be provided for the evening upon request.

The evening passed mostly uneventfully and we left refreshed the next day.

This is what I would have liked to describe but failed to articulate.

A very rough drawing of the hall as seen from one of the small rooms.

The sign is kinda funny, the mansion is a bit of a timeshare.

I really have to read up on that spell and make sure I'm not going overboard some where.
I like the idea that you just can't tell the color of things because of the magic and your own expectations.
Like the meme about the dress from the internet several years back.

Harlan in a hammock.

 Finally another post.
I've not done anything really fun for a few days and last night I managed to get an idea and put it to paper.
No idea what I'll do with this one just now.

These are the same picture. I went over the sketch with a few Micron pins sizes 01,03 ,05

Harlan owns a barn in the town of Newfort located in the Silver Marches.
It seemed like a good investment and I hope to turn it into a some kind of small business in town.
Maybe as a warehouse for goods or portion off part for a blacksmith shop.
I have a few small ideas like that for it.

In a back corner Harlan has put up a stickup made from rope and sail cloth, a sort of ten inside the barn. He sleeps in a hammock because it cost very little and has outfitted his "back corner office and living quarters" as effectively as he could on a very small budget.  He's bought quilts made by the ladies in Newfort, owns a folding campaign table and a few merroirs. It's all just enough to get him by when he's in town. Harlan's not a wealthy wizard and is usually away for work.

This one started a little weird.
I'd for some reason thought about a picture of Mr. Gone sitting cross legged from one of the later issues of The Maxx. ( Because of course...)
I didn't know at that time just what I'd do with that.
The sketch itself seemed really light, I'm using a 0.9 MM mechanical pencil.
on the right side the led started to rub and smudge. But I put it on very lightly so maybe it's related.
The body structure came together extremely easily. It's always nice when you don't have to fight with the lines and the placement.  Not a lot more to say about that really. I guess I'd not really attempted to draw in a little while. The Ink went on very easily I used the 03 as my base side and shaded with the 01 and hardly used the 05.  I might color it in with colored pencils. or I may add more details to the picture as I figure out what's missing. Maybe one of Harlan's large Merroirs but only if it fits without drastically changing the picture.

Any way, thanks for having a look.

No model painting right now and I am actually considering selling all my 40K models so there may be several posts of painted armies so I can put them on ebay. No timeline for that just now.

                                                                 More again.

Flat painting number 3. Harlan meets Crocus.

My DnD group had the idea that my two characters would meet.
And we joked about it for a while until I came up with this rough draft.

I was still working out just what Crocus my Lizard-folk druid would look like.
I've run more with the theater of the mind on that and have been using a banjo playing Gator-man I found on a google search for my avatar.

I like that gator-man picture, it's formed how I play Crocus as a sort of lazy lizard but also helpful and mostly good natured character.

I take a lot of my influence from Sam Keith, you may have heard of him...
I've been a fan of his the MAXX comic from issue 1 way back in the 90's and finish collecting them all just a year or so ago. I'll admit that that story isn't for everyone but I definitely enjoyed the ride.

"Harlan" was patterned from Mr. Gone and Merlin from Excalibur.
Harlan is not really a nice guy but not truly a bad guy.

Harlan had this habit of eating boiled eggs and drinking beer daily as a fair portion of his sustenance.
The Frank Reynolds shtick about may I offer you an egg was adopted and I just ran with it.

Crocus.
This guy, so we got a big paycheck for some work and Crocus heads down to the docks and buys all the shrimp from a ships hold and has it delivered to the bar and boardinghouse. I figured it would be fairly nasty and fun but it turned into bags of "road shrimp" or a "shrimp for the road'.
More akin to the line, More gopher?
( O Brother, Where art thou? )

And so here we are.

Oh, the moon is the Moonbeam spell but the Moon is from the mighty Boosh.
Because I've always found that to be both hilarious and genius.
It works really well for Crocus.

At the time of talking about turning this idea into a picture I thought that it seemed really ambitious and I wasn't sure if I would even attempt to paint this or not.
To my surprise I painted this yesterday in just a few hours.

Full disclosure this is only a 3" X 5" canvas.

Thanks for looking.

From a dream I had.

I had a dream of a dark angry sea. very dark, very grey.
The water was translucent.
I have no idea how I would draw or paint that.

I painted this last night on a 3" x 5" canvas.
Not what I saw in my dream but I like it anyway.

Finally table ready.

Zombie Mayhem! The Blood pit of horrors (part 5 Turn sequence. )

 The Turn sequence.

Command phase.
preform any upkeep rolls and count score.

Players turn.

Movement. Models may move up to 6 inches.

Advance Models may move add D6 inches to their movement.

Charge. Players may attempt to charge up to 2d6 inches.

Psychic phase.
Place holder.

Shooting phase.
Models who made a successful charge during the movement phase may make close combat attacks with charge bonuses.

See close combat for more information.

Models may make ranged attacks gains Zombies.

Models that did not move in the movement phase hit automatically.

Models that advanced hit on a 3+

Models that attempted a charge hit on a 5+

Cover.

Light cover -1 to hit when targeting zombies, if the model did not move it must now roll a 2+ to hit.

Hard cover is light cover in addition Zombies improve their saves by 1, 5+ save becomes a 4+ save.

Models stuck in close combat may make ranged attacks targeting any Zombies they are in close combat with. These range attacks hit on a 4+

If a model making such an attack is outnumbered more than 3 to 1 those attacks hit on a 5+

In both cases this only applies to ranged attacks.

Charge phase.

Models not stuck in to close combat may attempt to charge zombies within 2d6 inches.
This distance must reach base contact with a Zombie models base.

Close Combat.

Highest initiative attacks first.

Roll to hit. Zombies are struck on a 3+ in close combat unless a model has a bonus to improve that roll.

roll to wound vs toughness.

Make saves Zombies have a save of 5+ unless there is a bonus to improve that number.

End combat.
If a model is no longer in close combat or out side of 2 inches of base contact to a Zombie that model may move 3 inches in any direction.

Zombie turn sequence.

Command phase  ^^ see above.

Movement.
A Zombies move is random, roll 2D6 pick the highest. a zombie may move up to that many inches.
Zombies move either towards the closest visible model ( players model ) or toward the nearest objective. Zombies move in a pack. Zombies within 2 inches of another zombie will move in the same direction unless moving towards a model would be closer.

Zombies may attempt to charge in the movement phase, this replaces their standard movement.

If zombies made a successful charge they may fight close combat in the following phase. As Zombies have no shooting phase this may let a zombie fight twice in the zombie turn.

In place of shooting zombies may advance this movement is 1D6 inches.

Charge phase.
Zombies may attempt to charge roll 2D6 for distance. If this reaches base contact with a model(players model) move the Zombies up that many inches getting as close as they can to the target model.

Close combat.

Zombies fight at Initiative.
 I - 2 / WS  - 2 / ST - 3.
See mission sheet for more information on Zombies.

End combat.
Zombies no longer stuck in close combat may consolidate up to 3 inches toward the nearest visible model if no models are visible this consolidation should move the zombies closer to the closest near by zombie. Zombies may stay on objectives if they are already on an objective.

Notes for solo games.

I recommend fielding at minimum 2 models possibly 3 models.
You may want to shrink the play area and use less objectives maybe 2 or 3 total instead of 5.
I would use fewer zombie spawn points maybe 2 or 3 tops but this should be balanced against how you have armed your models. If you are very killy then maybe 3 or 4 spawn points would be fine.
All I can recommend is trial and error until you get the numbers that play the best the most consistently.
I do also recommend at least one model armed exclusively for close combat.

Thanks for reading there will be more.

Spewed forth from the Bloody pit of Horrors, 100 ZOMBIES!

My friend Kieran sent me a box stuffed with 70 Wargames Factory zombies!
In about 7 days I managed to get them all painted...

I think they turned out fairly well and match the 30 I had already painted.

I know I haven't had a post with many models in it recently, hope this makes up for that.
