Yet another art project. " Art is in the air" - Banner

A local artist put out a call for people to paint banners for an event in town.
We, my wife and I, took two banners to pain. I managed to paint this in about 3 days. I wasn't particularly interested so I didn't even lift a finger to get this done for two months. The artist contacted us, seems a lot of people who committed didn't get theirs turned in. After hearing part of the conversation about the banners there seemed to be some question about if I could even do it. The local artist has never seen my work. (I need to find the time to change that.)  It felt like the gauntlet had been thrown down so I got off my ass and got to work.

At first I was told to paint anything I wanted. This changed to something that would be in theme with our town. I was going to plagiarize a picture I found online and just not take credit. I'd be honest about it not being my idea. I don't care. In the end, I did these. It's one banner but the front and back are night and day.

A reasonably done full moon.

A poorly executed sunrise.

I really don't care for these. To me, it seems like something a child would do.
That said there is some merit to the simplicity.
These will be hanging from lamp posts on the main thoroughfare through town.
The speed limit is 35mph which means the banners need to be uncomplicated enough to view at speed.
The more detail I put in would just be lost to the viewer.

The banners are some kind of cloth canvas material. They are a rough surface to work with on.
The Gesso was put on thick and maybe next time I'll just do several thin coats. (Groan. the jokes aren't that good this morning.)

The size of the canvas was an issue as well. it just didn't seem wide enough to me.

I've lost my train of thought...

More thoughts on this simple paint style.
The local artist offers painting events, like a paint along or a paint and sip party fun stuff like that so that she can monetize being an artist.  It's a way for her to make a living.
This naive style is a way for painting to be approachable for the non-artist, the new painter, or whoever.
It helps remove the intimidation someone might feel about the idea of painting a picture.
I took that idea and kept it in mind for this set of pictures.

It checked the right boxes. It got the work done and it didn't look horrible.

Lost my train of thought again.
I guess we'll call it here.

Thanks for stopping by.
